The 33rd International Conference on Metallurgy and Materials METAL 2024 was held in Brno on 22-24 May 2024. 82 lectures and 71 posters were prepared for almost 180 participants from 28 countries.

The conference was opened by Professor Peter Jurči from Slovak University of Technology, Faculty of Materials and Technology in Trnava with a lecture High-alloyed Ledeburitic Cold Work Tool Steels.

The second plenary lecture was delivered online by Professor Pavel Novák from the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague. He devoted his lecture to the history, present and future of the use of intermetallic materials.

However, the thematic scope of the conference lectures was traditionally much broader. Researchers presented innovations not only in the fields of production of iron, steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals and alloys, metal forming and surface engineering, but also in the economics and management of metallurgical production.

The prize for the best poster went to Timon SCHILD from the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (Luxembourg).

The next 34th METAL conference will take place again in May 2025.

Abstract: <div>This work deals with the increase in mechanical and utility properties of diamond grinding wheel with controlled porosity prepared by the sintering along the diamond grain boundary using binder material based on Cu-Sn-Ti alloy with subsequent hot isostatic pressing (HIP). The structure of diamond grinding wheel contained after sintering a large proportion of open porosity (35 to 39 %), which ensures a very good supply of coolant to the grinding point and at the same time removes the ground material from the grinding point. Abstract: <div>Operational constrains of Hot Dip Galvanizing Line – HDGL - management are more and more challenging: competitiveness (quality/yield improvement – productivity increase – OPEX reduction), flexibility (complex product-mix) and environment footprint reduction (lower energy consumption, raw material savings). These challenges can be addressed with the usage of digital tools enhancing the process optimization and automatic control of production lines. For that purpose, physical-based models have been built and industrially implemented in order to predict microstructural evolutions during annealing and related mechanical properties of flat-C steels at the line exit. These models rely on the description of the main metallurgical phenomena, i.e. [..] Read more
