Abstract: The generally applied requirements on lowering of emission production in the field of power industry have led, among others, into the application of low-emission combustion process of coal fired power plants. Besides the emissions reduction, this process has led to an increase of boilers parts corrosion degradation due to the reducing atmosphere in low-emission boilers, responsible for sulphide corrosion and molten salt attack. Abstract: One of the methods of protection of metal surfaces from an aggressive environment is the formation of continuous coating on their surfaces with water-repelling properties and a self-cleaning ability, which give the material superhydrophobic properties and also protect them from contamination.A solution for hydrophobization of aluminum alloy 5556 in a solution containing dimethyl sulfoxide and water in a ration of 7:1 and also stearic acid in the amount of 0.01 mol/L was developed. It was determined that the newly-formed coating in this solution is characterized by a contact angle of θс = 151°. The protective ability of coatings determined by the drop method as the time until the appearance of corrosion product under the drop of Akimov solution amounts to 125 s.Corrosion tests of AA 5556 speciments with hydrophobized surface were conducted (ASTM B117) in a salt fog chamber in the developed solution. Abstract: In recent years, black nickel-based functional coatings are increasingly being used as a worthy alternative to chromium coatings on steel, since such coatings provide not only an aesthetic appearance, but also effective corrosion protection. The known technologies of applying black nickel coatings do not allow obtaining coatings with the required corrosion and wearing resistance. In addition, these technologies involve the mandatory pre-deposition of copper or nickel underlayer. [..] Read more
