Abstract

Strain and temperature distribution fields during Friction Stir Welding (FSW) including plunging and welding stage were simulated using licensed software Deform 3DTM with Lagrangian Incremental formulation settings. Non-uniform temperature and strain distribution fields were observed. Developed model has a good agreement with experiment. Microstructure of friction stir weld was analyzed. Significant grain size refinement was observed.
