Abstract

In this study Al-Ni alloys with nickel contents between 1-5 wt-% were cast. Microstructures of the specimens were investigated under optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Effect of nickel on hardness and wear resistance of aluminium was studied. Worn surfaces of the specimens were examined to understand the wear mechanism. Tensile tests were performed to understand the change in mechanical properties. The results showed that the hardness and strength of the alloys increases with increasing nickel content. On the other hand ductility namely elongation values decrease with nickel amount. Maximum wear resistance is obtained with 3 % nickel addition.
